CoeFont Co., Ltd., a registered startup company at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, developer and provider of services utilizing AI, announced that the number of businesses using the CoeFont platform has exceeded 1,000 since the service was first launched in August 2021. In less than a year and a half, CoeFont’s AI voice platform has already attracted over 1,000 commercial use clients. However, their success did not come without challenges. With little to no market for AI-powered digital voices in Japan, the tech startup had to carve out a niche for itself by illustrating the diverse applications of digital voices across different industries. Along the way, they helped businesses introduce digital voices into translation apps, audiobooks, audio descriptions, and training operations, showcasing the versatility and potential of their technology. In May 2022, the platform updated their user plans, making commercial digital voice use more accessible to creators and businesses.

CoeFont’s social initiative, which provides free digital voice creation and usage to individuals with speech-impacting medical conditions, has gained significant attention since its launch in October 2021. The CoeFont team has worked with various medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies and, in 2022, was selected by the Mitsubishi Chemical Group to take part in the TANAMIN Digital Health Challenge, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals with ALS.

Before releasing the platform, I still had doubts about whether we could really launch a successful AI voice service. There seemed no market for it at all. It has now been a year and 5 months since our launch, and I am very happy to say that over 1,000 businesses are using our technology. On top of that, it has been incredible to see CoeFont gradually getting more attention in the medical industry, which is something I would never have envisioned. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has used our platform.
We are determined to continue pushing the boundaries of technology to improve our services and surprise our users. We are currently working on some exciting projects.

What’s next?

The CoeFont team are continuing to explore innovative uses of digital voices to enhance and facilitate business operations. They plan to introduce foreign language support, starting with English and Chinese, with the aim of expanding CoeFont into an international platform serving users worldwide. The company is also committed to continuing its work to promote digital voices as a standard medical solution for individuals who are at risk of losing their natural voices.
